A Classic of Ages

By Glen P
Life is always something we are thrown into, sometimes we get lucky and sometimes we have to push on through tough times. Set in 1965, this story tells about the darker end of life about the poor and the less fortunate. Not only does this book tell an interesting first person story but has made such an impact on the world that it is still recognized today as a masterpiece.

The outsiders is a book about a boy named Ponyboy who lives in the slums of Oklahoma with his two older brothers Sodapop and Darry. Ever since their parents died, Darry had to work two jobs in order to keep him and his brothers standing on two feet. They and all the other people who live in their ghetto are known as Greasers and the rich kids who fight with them are called the Socs. After Ponyboy gets in a fight with Darry, he runs away with his friend Johnny to the park and their a crazy event happens with the socs. Fearing they would be arrested, Ponyboy and Johnny are forced to go into hiding until the tension dies down.
I honestly didn't think I would feel this way over a book that is this old, I guess thats why they call them classics. I would recommend this book to anybody who is looking for a good read, you won't regret checking it out.
