Almost Perfect? By Alyssa Gillin

Almost Perfect?
By Alyssa G.

In Brian Katcher's Almost Perfect, there is a character of a 17 year old highschooler named Logan. He has just gone through a heartbreak over his long term girlfriend who cheated on him. His friends want him to get back in the game and not be so down all the time so they always tell him who he should go for. Once Sage, a new girl at school arrives, his interest is immediately devoted towards her.  He starts to fall for her until she tells him her big mysterious secret.

This story deals with the topic of transgender, hate crimes, and discrimination against  sexual preferences.   If you want an emotional roller coaster, this book is definitely the one for you. Its not your normal, everyday romance story, its so much more than that. Its the story of a transgender girl who develops feelings for a boy who doesn't even know her true gender. Almost Perfect is not only an example of love, but an example of friendship. Logan and Sage build up this strong bond between each other that may or may not turn into something more.
Brian Katcher has impressed us all again with his creative mind set in writing. Some of his other pieces include The Improbable Theory of Ana and Zak and Everyone Dies in the End.
Katcher shows us the reality of life in this novel. He makes it clear that not everybody is perfect. In this world there are people who are different then who most consider average. Just because they are "different" does not mean that they should be treated differently. If someone is born one gender and decides that they want to be the other, that is totally okay! People need to realize that it is just what that person feels. Others judge them and remind them of what gender they were born with but that is not who they truly are on the inside. This story includes all of that. I didn't want to put the book down!
Almost Perfect is worth the read for sure! If you want something a little different than your average romance novel check out this story. You can find it at your local library or bookstore. Happy reading.
