Abe's Adventure

By Stav A
The White Donkey Terminal Lance is written by Maximilian Uriarte and is about time in Iraq. The story takes place in 2007 and it tells the adventures of Abe and Garcia. The book itself is a graphic novel that dabbles in realistic fiction. Abe the main character has one sibling after his dad leaves and that's his whole family. He is an average American and decides to enlist in the army. He gets much more than he bargained for when he visits a war zone in Iraq. Abe is an atheist and is looking for something more by doing this.

Abe and Garcia are scrutinized and are labeled as boots their goal is to overcome this and show traits of bravery and courage. Maximilian's writing is very vulgar and uses a lot of sexist and homosexual references in this case I believe he is justified to do so because his writing is of the marines and it makes it sound very realistic.
The illustrations are very well drawn and as a reader very pleased as this being my first-time reader of a graphic novel that it was fun and easy to follow along. The book had a cartoony feeling to it and was very good at suspense because of the cartoony traits.
For a person looking for a hook into graphic novels, I suggest this book because it is a great and easy read. I personally suggest it is a great read on the toilet when the electronics batteries are low. On a serious note, Maximilian Uriarte is a fantastic writer/ illustrator and I am happy to see he has written some other novels to go along with the White Donkey.
