This should have had a clever title but ...

by Razz A.

The novel 'The Storytelling Animal' is a book on creating stories from the imagination. There are also a bunch of references to other books that were written in the far past. This story also revolves around how different everyone's imaginations are for instance between boys and girls/men and women, adults vs. children, and typical readers vs. atypical readers. This meaning those who read on a small timely basis against those who don't read on a typical basis. Reading this book has pros and cons explaining  how and why everyone has different stories through research of neuroscience, psychology and evolutionary biology.

There are some pros to this story if the reader knows all of the references to the books movies and television programs/ commercials. There is a con connected to this that not all references are obvious and the author assumes that the reader understands everything that he throws out. He also does a good job explaining some of the references by simplifying them. There are also some examples that he writes to make the reader understand the authors point which he has several good useful points.
This book was somewhat easy to read, but there were some contradicting points in the author's points how everyone makes different stories but all children have similar thoughts and make them into similar stories throughout the time children are young. Also he inserted a bunch of references and stories that although revolve with the main ideas they are not popular as some of them are not needed. There is no plot there are a bunch of ideas thrown out, but they are in a pattern that lays out the ideas nicely.
The author did a good job writing this novel in getting the point out to the readers, which was a "theory of Storytelling". Every man woman, girl, and boy have imaginations working at all times, especially during sleep. This shows how everyone can make a story, they just need to express it. I recommend this book to those who want to know about storytelling; aspiring authors or comedians, this is a good tool to have.
