The book I am going to review is called Life as we knew it. The book was written by Susan Beth
Pfeiffer. She also wrote the other three books in the series The Dead and the Gone, This World
we live in, and The Shade of the Moon. The genre of this book is science-fiction. Life as we
knew it is about a young girl named Miranda, who was an average teen. She hung out with her
friends, had good grades and was on the High School swim team. Her parents divorced and so
now she lives with her two brothers and her mother. Her life was about to take a deadly turn. An
asteroid collided with the moon and pushed it closer to Earth. Now, along with her family she
must face the hardships that come.
They are many things that I liked about this book. First of all it is very unique. Miranda describes
in depth of her surroundings so you can perfectly envision the asteroid colliding with the moon.
You can absorb every feeling she has. Some things I did not like about this book is how it was
formatted. It was written as diary entries. The problem with this is since the world is in peril she
could run out of writing utensils or paper. You would not know what would happen next if she
ran out of materials. I also did not like the ending of the whole trilogy. Miranda's story ends in
This world we Live in. Her brother Jonny begins to write about his experiences in The Shade of
the Moon. Personally I liked Miranda's story better than Jonny's.
I believe that you should read this book if you like apocalypse types of books. You should read it
because it shows different way of how the world could end. The world could end in fire or ice or
with an asteroid colliding with the moon. You can locate this book at Barnes and Noble or at the
Nashua High School South Library.
